It Girl Consulting combines strategy and experience with online communication and content. The results are innovative, vibrant online communities where people with common interests make connections through libraries.

Online Communities \ \ n : social groups that form and interact through the Internet.

Librarians are now beginning to discover the power and potential of social networks and online community building. We’re starting to provide more streamlined library services, offer more efficient learning and sharing, and make more meaningful connections with others who care about the same things we do, no matter where in the world they are.

It Girl Consulting works with library staff to determine your organization's opportnities for connecting and sharing online. We'll then work to implement the best tools and programs to meet your specific needs. Working with library management, we create community building strategies and professional development opportunities for library staff. Working with IT, Web, and Outreach teams, we find and implement ways to build communities through library buildings, programs and online services.

The woman behind the "It"
It Girl is a reference to the silent film star and original ‘it’ girl, Clara Bow. Clara mixed charm and wit with the technology of her time to establish one of the earliest pop culture communities of the twentieth century. We aspire to make such a splash in our work for libraries and communities.

The woman behind the "Girl"
Chrystie R. Hill is the principal consultant at It Girl. She received her MA in Women’s History from Sarah Lawrence College in 1999 and her MLIS from the iSchool at the University of Washington in 2001. Fascinated by technology, society, and culture, Chrystie believes that tech-enhanced librarianship helps us better deliver on one of the core values of our profession: democratic, equitable access for every member of the communities we serve. She knows that finding the perfect balance between meaningful content, substantive interaction, and kick-ass functionality is a challenge, but possible, so she strives to bring them together in every project. Ultimately she believes it's the people, not content nor the tools, that make online communities powerful forces for collaboration and change.
